Provides administrative support and coordination activities for a team of people. Answering telephone, taking messages and answering routine questions. Maintaining master copies of company policy and procedure manuals; keeping them up-to-date. Typing and distributing memos, meeting minutes and presentations for staff. Maintaining vacation schedule and master schedule of whereabouts for staff.


The One Call Assistant supports the One Call Nurse with the coordination of next-level care and the timely transfer of patients to and from Sanford. The assistant will have a basic knowledge of EMTALA and Cobra laws. The assistant must have knowledge of computers, telephone functionality, fax machines, radios and will be given instruction on the telemedicine processes. Duties of this person will include but not limited to-answering incoming phone calls, answering ambulance radio reports, assisting with placement of patients, assisting with telemedicine checks with outlying facilities, helping to alert physicians and appropriate units of arrival times of incoming patients.
The person will assist the RN with phone calls, page on call physicians and providers so that they can participate in a discussion of a patient's needs. The actions will result in a consult to enable the referring provider to meet the patient's needs or the patient's transfer to the next level of care.
The assistant must have knowledge and understanding of medical terminology. Must have good communication skills to assist in the transfer of a patient from one facility to another. Must be organized and have ability to prioritize work, function under and handle stress and ability to do detailed work efficiently. Must have good interpersonal skills, strong communication skills and able to collaborate with other team members.
The assistant is a customer service representative for Sanford Health. This position requires an individual who consistently demonstrates empathy, understanding, compassion and kindness to our customers. Cannot show bias regardless of race, color, and culture, socio-economic, or physical or emotional condition. This employee must be able to maintain a calm and caring affect. Performs other One Call duties as assigned


High school diploma or equivalent required. Training/experience as a Medical Assistant (MA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) is desired.
