Equipment Operator - Vellek Sand Pit
This position starts out at $16.15 and up, depending on experience.


Operates straight or articulated rubber tired tractor type vehicle equipped with front mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage or processing areas, in order to load trucks or feed conveyors, hoppers, or chutes, by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

+ Becomes familiar with digging plans, machine capabilities and limitations, and with efficient and safe digging procedures in a given application.

+ Moves materials over short distances.

+ Backfills excavations.

+ Loads trucks and rail cars.

+ Measures and weighs materials.

+ Creates and maintains inclines and ramps, and handle slides, mud, and pit cleanings and maintenance.

+ Inspects material moving equipment and performs routine maintenance such as: lubricating, adjusting and repairing machinery; replacing parts such as gears, bearings, and cutting edges; fueling, and; cleaning.

+ Uses power or hand tools.

+ Assists in plant maintenance as directed.

+ Perform safety inspections in and around plant.

+ Other duties may be assigned.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the following physical abilities:

+ Frequently sit; walk, stand; use hands and fingers to touch, handle, or feel and; reach with hands and arms.

+ Occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and talk or hear.

+ Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

+ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

This position may require you to wear a half mask respirator at times and therefore, you will be required to be fit tested. Per OSHA "The Respiratory Protection standard, paragraph 29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A), states that respirators shall not be worn when facial hair comes between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face or that interferes with valve function. Facial hair is allowed as long as it does not protrude under the respirator seal, or extend far enough to interfere with the device's valve function. Short mustaches, sideburns, and small goatees that are neatly trimmed so that no hair compromises the seal of the respirator usually do not present a hazard and, therefore, do not violate paragraph 1910.134(g)(1)(i).
