VA BHHCS is a multi-campus health care system, with approximately 1300 employees, providing primary care, acute medicine, surgery, behavioral health, nursing home and domiciliary care from medical centers located at Fort Meade and Hot Springs, South Dakota as well as a staffed Community Based Outreach Clinic in Rapid City and numerous contracted and staffed clinics in Western South Dakota, Northern Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming. ### Responsibilities
The Caregiver Support Coordinator (CSC) is a Social Work Program Coordinator whose primary responsibilities are to provide clinical evidence based services and interventions; program development, caregiver, Veteran and staff education on caregiver issues; community outreach; resource development; continuous quality improvement activities, and evaluation/consultation. In addition the incumbent must be a skilled communicator capable of developing effective partnerships with local, state and federal agencies as well as non-governmental organizations.
The CSC is administratively responsible for the clinical programming adn daily operations of the program. Develops policies and procedures for program operations and prepares reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use. The incumbent may be responsible for the program's budget and various control points assigned ot the program within the assigned areas.
*****This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months. Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration of more than 1 year, but not more than 4 years and are subject to a 1 year trial period. Should the need warrant, term appointments may be extended without further competition up to a maximum of the 4 year limitation. The appointment to a term position does not confer eligibility for promotion, reassignment, or transfer to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.*****

### Qualifications
**Basic Requirements**:
* **United States Citizenship:** Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* **Education.** Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.
* **Licensure**. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. .
**Preferred Experience:** At least 2 years of experience in an area of specialized social work practice.
**Grade Determinations**:
**GS-12 Social Worker Program Coordinators.** Program coordinators at the GS-12 grade are administratively responsible for a clinical program providing treatment to patients in a major specialty, such as Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) coordinators, Visual Impairment Services Team (VIST) coordinators, Homeless Veterans Program (HVP) coordinators, Community Nursing Home Program (CNHP) coordinators. They may be the sole practitioner in this specialty at the facility and typically provide direct patient care services in the program area. They manage the daily operation of the program, develop policies and procedures for program operation, and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use. They may be responsible for the program's budget.
**Experience**,** Education and Licensure.** Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator or manager must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level. Their experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. They may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate
the professional KSAs below.
**Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
* In-depth knowledge of the program coordinated, and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
* Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
* Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
* Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and evaluate assigned program area(s).
* Ability to provide training, orientation, consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice.

**Physical Requirements:**The work is primarily sedentary and non-strenuous and is carried out within the confines of the office/work space provided. A significant amount of walking throughout the Medical Center can be anticipated in order to facilitate face to face contact with veterans, family members and medical center staff.
